Smarty Pants
Let’s Get Serious, Let’s Get Silly
In this exclusive Twist and Shout master class, professional silly person Smarty Pants will share how to discover the brilliantly silly entertainer within you. As an introductory level master class, we’ll start at the beginning, covering the essential techniques of clowning, physical movement, mime and improv. Combining these “silly” skills allow us to create more memorable connections with our audiences, expand our creativity, and become better entertainers.
After we cover the performing basics, we’ll explore our super-secret silly weapon – balloons. From the smallest rounds to the largest six footers, plus twisting balloons from 160s to 660s - there’s a massive amount of silly potential in balloons of all shapes and sizes. We’ll play with balloons, and learn how to use them to create magically unforgettable, hilariously fun experiences at our gigs.
A self-taught performing artist, Smarty Pants has been a professional balloon entertainer for nearly twenty years. He regularly performs the Big Balloon Show at Chicago’s museums, libraries, community centers, and theatre stages. This master class is grounded in Smarty’s core belief that everyone has a great entertainer within them, and that we all may just need a place to get started. You’ll leave this master class a better performer than when you walked in, with the newfound ability and inspiration to become confidently silly at every single gig.
