Artistic Sculpture Exhibitions
The Artistic Balloon Exhibitions are always a highlight of Twist & Shout. It is a formal opportunity to display your best work to the balloon community and the perfect venue to try out new ideas. All attendees are encouraged to participate in the competitions. You can participate by entering one or more of the competitions and by voting in all of the categories.
Small Artistic Sculpture

Small Sculpture Exhibition pieces are a max of 12" x 12" x 12" (30.5 cm) and due between 1pm and 5pm on Friday of the convention.
Large Artistic
Sculpture

All Large Sculpture Exhibition pieces are a max of 8' long x 8' deep x 10' high. and due between 8am and 12pm on Friday of the convention.
Medium Artistic Sculpture

Medium Sculpture Exhibition pieces are a max of 36" x 36" x 36" (91.4 cm) and due between 1pm and 5pm on Friday of the convention.

Uninflated Artistic Sculpture
Uninflated Sculpture Exhibition pieces are due between 1pm and 5pm on Friday of the convention.
Rules for Voters

Only fully-registered attendees can vote in the competitions.

Each person may cast three votes per category.

Your ballots are included with your registration badge. Please do not lose them or you will not be able to vote.

You are forbidden from giving your ballot to anyone else.

Artistic Sculpture Competition voting will take place Friday after the stage competition for 1-hour only, and Saturday 9:00am to 3:00pm SHARP!

Do not touch or take any of the sculptures in the competition without permission from T&S staff and the artist.

You vote by writing the number of your chosen sculpture on your ballot. Votes must be written legibly. If we can't read it, we can’t count it.

Artistic Sculpture Competition voting will close on Saturday at 3:00pm. If your vote is not in the ballot box by the time the doors are closed, it will not be counted.

Awards will be given for first, second, and third place in each category, as well as Top Twister.
- Awards will be announced at the banquet Saturday night.
Rules for Contestants

Only fully-registered attendees can enter the competitions.

You may only enter one figure per category.
-
You may have help from friends building your sculptures, but you must be the primary designer and hands-on twister of your pieces.

T&S will not supply any balloons or other materials for your sculptures.

In order to be considered for the Top Twister Prize, a competitor must enter the small, medium, and large Artistic Sculpture categories (uninflated is not counted towards the Top Twister prize).

The Top Twister Prize is awarded to the competitor who receives the highest number of votes total in the small, medium, and large Artistic Sculpture Competition categories.

No exceptions. No whining. Remember, this is supposed to be fun.
Rules for Sculptures

All entries must be made from balloons.
-
There are four categories in the figure competition: 1) Small, 2) Medium, 3) Large and 4) Uninflated. The dimensions are:

Small sculpture competition pieces are to be no larger than 12" x 12" x 12" (30.5 cm).
-
Medium sculpture competition pieces are to be no larger than 36" x 36" x 36" (91.4 cm)
-
Large sculpture competition pieces are to be no larger than 8' length x 8' deep x 10' high (approximately 2.4 meters x 2.4 meters x 3 meters).

There is no size limit for uninflated sculpture pieces, but all balloons in the sculpture must be uninflated or “puffed”. If any latex is stretched inside of the balloon, it will be placed in one of the above categories.

No squishing. Your sculptures must fit the size requirements without being pressed or folded or touched.

All mediums of attachment and decoration are allowed (e.g., tape, glue, wire, monofilament, paint, marker, staples, hockey helmets, etc).

You may build your competition pieces at any time and in any place including the jam room.

Large sculptures may not be assembled in the competition area until 8am on Friday of the convention.
Rules for Submitting your Entries

You must bring your large entries to the competition room between 8am and 12pm on the Friday of the convention. The entry room will close at promptly at noon.

Small, medium, and uninflated entries will be accepted between 1pm and 5pm on the Friday of the convention. The entry room will close promptly at 5pm.

In the competition room you will receive a numbered tag for your sculpture(s).
-
A convention staff member will verify the size category. Your sculpture must meet the category size requirement without being squished or pressed.
-
Place a numbered tag in front of your piece in a conspicuous manner. You do not have to physically attach the tag to the piece, nearby is fine.
-
A T&S photographer will move your sculpture to take a clean photo of it. Please do not take your own photos at this time.

Place your piece with the numbered tag on the correct table as directed. Again, please do not take your own photos at this time.
-
Once you place your sculpture on the competition table, you may no longer touch it until after the Saturday night banquet, even if it tips over at a later time.

Please be aware that the competition pieces may be moved by a T&S staff member as necessary for photography and to make room for other pieces. If a staff member causes damage to your sculpture at this time you may repair/replace it (but not otherwise).

If your sculpture incorporates sound effects, you must show a T&S staff member how to control the volume.

If your sculpture includes a button that activates a movement or sound, the button must be clearly labeled and easily reached by attendees in a manner that ensures they do not disturb the sculpture.

Only magnetic rigging will be allowed from the ceiling if magnetic points are available.

Any special requirements such as electrical, helium, or any other requests must be made to Twist & Shout via patty@balloondesigns.com by Monday the week before the convention in order to be honored.

Note that voting ends the following day at 3pm, so please design your sculptures so they continue to look good until then.

Please do not remove or touch your entries until after the banquet on Saturday night. At that time, you are welcome to retrieve your sculptures.

T&S can not be held responsible for the safety of your sculpture after the banquet Saturday night ends.
